We build sustainable picture frames with professional expertise. Sustainable in the sense of a circular economy, where materials, energy, and labor are not consumed but continually reused. This means resource-efficient production, long-lasting quality, and an economically viable price.
The focus is always on the unique framing of a work of art and the use of the highest conservation techniques and materials. Our corporate philosophy is based on the fact that everything we build, and especially how we build it, is always at the heart of everything we do. As entrepreneurs, we think differently today: we believe in social and sustainable awareness and constantly question our working methods and views in order to develop our company creatively and with an open mind, while maintaining the professionalism, high quality, and uniqueness of our frames. Our Open Studio stands for open access to knowledge and to our own framing workshop, regardless of previous experience. We love sharing our passion for our work and see this as a further step towards a sustainable and long-lasting product: by passing on our knowledge, our customers become picture framing experts themselves and learn to appreciate the quality of our work.
For our custom-made pieces, we use new FSC-certified solid wood moldings, such as oak or walnut, which meet the highest standards for more sustainable forestry through strict social and ecological principles. Or we manufacture our own moldings from recycled wood, which we source locally in Berlin and Brandenburg: doors, windows, and floorboards are given a second life with us. All cardboard and glass are new materials with high conservation standards for acid-free and gentle framing. The leftover materials from the custom-made pieces are reused to make the clip-on frames, which are sold in-store and online. This step allows us to reduce our waste by 50%. The material that we can no longer process into picture frames ourselves is used for cozy team evenings by the fire after work. For this reason, we offer our clip-on frames primarily from recycled wood or leftovers from new moldings, which greatly reduces the amount of leftover material and unusable stock. Our picture frames are built to last. The diverse materials, the fine craftsmanship, and the love that goes into each individual frame make the picture frame a stable and durable product that will accompany you for a long time. And if something is broken on your old frame, we can repair it for you. There's something in every frame worth reviving or rediscovering. Our team is the heart of the company and our highest priority. Through inclusion, diverse skills, creativity, and mutual trust, we bring a passion to our work that is palpable. We are proud of the team and the diverse talents that make Frameworks what it is.
Frameworks sees itself as a social enterprise with a strong focus on sustainable consumption.
However, there are still major structural problems and challenges that make this a permanent challenge: for example, the lack of knowledge, education, and willingness in the conservation sector, the time commitment involved in public tenders, and companies' efforts to identify not only the most cost-effective but also the most sustainable service provider. In the short term, we want to review all materials used for sustainability and, where possible and not yet done, replace them with certified products. Our long-term goal is to achieve B Corp certification.
